In Season 7 of Black Mirror, one episode has surprised fans in a big way. Episode 6, called “USS Callister: Into Infinity”, is a sequel to one of the show’s most famous episodes. For the first time ever, Black Mirror created a follow-up story—and it brought back one of its most well-known characters, Robert Daly, played by Jesse Plemons.
Robert Daly was the villain in the original USS Callister episode from Season 4. He created a video game world where he could control digital copies of his coworkers. He was cruel and scary. Many fans thought they had seen the last of him. But in this new sequel, Robert comes back in a surprising way. He now lives deep inside the game, where he is like a digital god. At first, he seems helpful. But things take a dark turn.
The story begins when Nanette, played by Cristin Milioti, and her crew are trying to escape the game. They are stuck inside a place called Infinity, which is controlled by powerful players and greedy systems.
To save her crew, Nanette goes to the “Heart of Infinity.” That’s where she finds Robert Daly again—only this time, he seems different. He is alone, awkward, and even a little bit nice. He says he wants to help. But soon, he shows his true colors again.
This version of Robert is a digital copy made long ago. He was created to help build new worlds in the game. But even after all this time, he still enjoys being in control. He lies to Nanette, plays with her emotions, and even tries to trap her again. The scene reminds viewers that sometimes people who say they are “nice” can still do bad things, especially when they have too much power.

The episode shows us something new about Robert’s past. In a flashback, we learn that his partner Walton, played by Jimmi Simpson, gave him the tools to make clones. So, Walton also shares some blame for what happened. But in the end, the show reminds us that being a victim doesn’t give anyone the right to hurt others.
Charlie Brooker, the creator of Black Mirror, said in an interview with Collider that this episode was a way to explore more about Robert’s character. It also warns us about how power, when used the wrong way, can turn anyone into a villain.
Jesse Plemons’ return to Black Mirror isn’t just a cameo—it changes how we see the whole story. Now, fans are asking new questions about Nanette, Robert, and what might happen next in the world of Infinity.
